Feline Diabetes Signs and Symptoms

Depending upon the type and stage of the disease, feline diabetes symptoms will vary from cat to cat. The prime candidates for diabetes are over weight older males, but cats of either sex and any age may be affected. The classic signs of the disease are excessive urination (polyuria) and excessive thirst (polydipsia). Early on in the disease, your cat may show only these symptoms, or none at all. In addition to polyuria and polydipsia, progressive symptoms may include an increase in appetite, while at the same time losing weight. In addition, sick cats will become lethargic. They also may develop diabetic neuropathy, a condition that causes weakness in the back legs. More severe symptoms may include loss of appetite, vomiting, and dehydration. Over time, afflicted cats may present with liver disease, secondary infections, and display poor hair coat. Additional symptoms can be brought on if a cat develops diabetic ketoacidosis. This is a potentially fatal condition that may cause breathing problems, weakness, vomiting and diarrhea. With proper treatment and disease management, feline diabetes can be controlled. There are two things you can do to help prevent the onset of the disease and reduce its effects in affected cats. First,...

American Rottweilers Make Excellent Therapy Dogs

Most people do not realize that there are two types of Rottweilers. This is because there is very little difference between the two. The two types of Rottweilers are the American Rottweiler and the German Rottweiler. The German Rottweiler is shorter, stockier and more muscular than the American Rottweiler. The American Rottweiler is taller and thinner through the face and body. Both the American Rottweiler and the German Rottweiler are black with distinct tan markings over both eyes, cheeks, muzzle and chest. Both have coats that are medium length, coarse and straight and both have a double undercoat. The only difference between the American Rottweiler and the German Rottweiler is their size. The American Rottweiler is taller and thinner in the face and body while the German Rottweiler is shorter, stockier and more muscular. American Rottweilers are very intelligent dogs and will take over the home if not trained properly. The cute little cuddly puppies grow into giant animals that need to know who the boss really is. These dogs can be stubborn but will learn very quickly from obedience training and should be trained at a very early age. If the American Rottweiler is not trained and socialized early...

Proper Shar Pei Care
By Melissa Coleman

Shar Pei's not only have a unique personality but they also have health problems that are just as unique to their breed as their personality. Due to the wrinkles in a Shar Pei's skin they face many Shar Pei health problems such as ear infections, skin problems and eye problems. To avoid health problems the best thing to do is keep your regular appointments with a veterinarian who is aware of problems specific to the Shar Pei breed. Your veterinarian can give you an ear wash to use at least once a week in order to keep your dogs ears clean. The ear wash is an important part of keeping the earwax loose both inside the ear and further down in the ear canal. It is also a good idea to place a special salve in the ears at least once a month in order to prevent ear infections. If you notice any signs of an ear infection it is important to get your dog to a veterinarian right away for treatment. The key to keeping your dog healthy is to get medical attention for any conditions such as ear infections. When your Shar Pei begins pawing at their eyes you know they have eye problems. The Shar Pei can have problems with the lids rolling in because of the wrinkles in their skin. Sometimes just the top or bottom lids are affected but in some cases both the lids can be affected. As soon as possible you want to correct this Shar Pei health problem with an operation otherwise your Shar Pei can eventually go blind. For your dog it feels the same as having an eyelash stuck in your eye and you know how painful that can be. Skin conditions are the most common Shar Pei health problems. Your dog is actually rare compared to other Shar Pei's if they don't have skin problems. Occasionally too much bathing can results in skin problems. It is important that you rinse your Shar Pei very well after you bathe them. You can use human Benedryl in order to help with the itching and it won't harm the dog. Checking between the paws from time to time is another important part of the Shar Pei health check. Shar Pei can sometimes get sore paws and you will know this when it happens because your dog will start to constantly lick their paws. Your veterinarian can recommend an antibiotic salve, that won't harm your dog in case they lick it. The antibiotic will also help to get rid of the soreness between their paws. Despite the many Shar Pei health problems the breed makes an excellent pet. There is less change of having your Shar Pei develop breed specific health problems if you get them from a reputable breeder. It is important to carefully consider the puppy and the person you are getting them from before taking a Shar Pei into your household. If you have any concerns about your Shar Pei's health then you should talk with your veterinarian who is trained to handle breed specific problems. A Guide For Arizona Pet Shops: Avoid Being Charged With Animal Cruelty

Arizona has created a task force to help manage and monitor how Arizona pet shops take care of the animals they are selling. Just because you are selling those animals, and the fact that they are not your pet does not mean that they don't deserve to be treated humanely. Without a sense of responsibility Arizona pet shop owners might neglect their animals. But not only Arizona pet shops; as shocking as it may seem animal grooming establishments, breeding facilities, kennels, and even animal shelters are common violators of animal rights. Making these people legally responsible to fully implement laws against animal cruelty is the best action to be taken. Follow These Simple Rules An Arizona pet shop must have a resident veterinarian or currently have a veterinarian on its pay roll to on call and to check up on its animals regularly.
